Set Up Your Phone for Emergency Alerts
1. Check your phone’s emergency alerts
iPhone:
Go to Settings → Notifications, scroll all the way down to Government Alerts, and make sure Emergency Alerts and Public Safety Alerts are turned on.
Android:
Go to Settings → Notifications → Wireless emergency alerts and make sure severe, extreme and public safety alerts are turned on.

2. Turn on weather alerts
iPhone:
Open Weather → Location List → ••• → Notifications and turn on Severe Weather for your location. You can also turn on Next-Hour Precipitation.
Android:
Open the Google app → profile picture → Settings → Notifications and make sure weather notifications are turned on. Google can also use your location to send relevant weather and crisis alerts.
Pixel:
Go to Settings → Apps → Pixel Weather → Notifications and turn on weather notifications.

3. Sign up for local emergency alerts
Your city or county may send its own alerts for wildfires, evacuations, floods and other local emergencies.
Search Google for “[your city or county] emergency alerts” and choose the official local government or emergency management website.

4. Add an emergency app
An emergency app gives you another way to receive alerts and find information during a disaster.
FEMA App
Get weather and emergency alerts for multiple locations, plus preparedness information and disaster resources.
American Red Cross Emergency App
Get National Weather Service alerts, live weather maps, preparedness information and locations for open Red Cross shelters and services.

Don’t rely on just one alert
Built-in emergency alerts, weather notifications, local alerts and an emergency app give you multiple ways to know what’s happening when something goes wrong.
